Movie Review : The Pursuit of Happyness

The Pursuit of Happyness which had released in 2007 and directed by Gabriele Muccino has gotten many appreciation. Many people think that this story is really inspiring. Then, this story was come from the real story of a succesful person, Chris Gardner. It makes people think that there is no impossible thing as long as we have a dream and take an effort in our dream.

The story began in 1981 in San Fransisco. Chris Gardner (Will Smith) and his wife Linda Gardner (Thandie Newton) lived in the small apartment with they child who was called Christopher Gardner (Jaden Smith). Chris was a salesman of Density Scanner Portable. In addition, Linda worked as a labour in one of the laundry company. Then, this small family have several problems with their economy. At its height, Linda left Chris and her child and went to New York City. After that, Chris met with someone who take red Ferari who made him become a an apprenticed in stockbokerage firm. When he was apprenticed, he has no money again. In this stage, he has to struggle with his child Christopher to pass every day and day. In the end of story, Chris acceptable in that company and he able to built their own stockbokerage firm, Gardner Rich.

The succesful of the film is highly contributed by the actors. Will Smith as a main character in this film is one of the great afro-american actor. Is there anything that Will Smith can’t do? He has survived Bel-Air, saved the world from an alien invasion and act as Muhammad Ali, the boxing legend. With The Pursuit of Happyness, Smith as if wanted to challenge himself to act as Chris Gardner himself. He and his child, Jaden Smith successfully make everyone feel symphaty to their condition and also feel happy when they get their happiness in the end of story. Because of their totality in that film, they achieved several awards such as NAACP Image Award, MTV movie award, and others awards in 2007.

This movie is completed quite well. The way of a video editing group in take every expression of Will Smith was perfect especially after he got his job. They make a sharpen image in the face of the main character and a little bit blur in his around. It makes we can see and only focus on the happy expressions of the main character. However, this movie is lack of the setting of place. For example, for the high building which are shown in the film actually aren’t existed in 1981.

Along this movie, Chris Gardner as the real character of this movie want to told us about the meaning of happiness, dream, hard working, time and also patience. Many people know the definition of those thing, but don’t know the essence. We can see that many people want to be get happiness but stop dreaming. Not only that, many people were lazy and also underestimate the time by coming late, and wasting their time by doing some unimportant thing. By doing those things, he believe that there aren’t impossible thing in this world. He also told us that we can’t do everything without God intere. In one of the scene, it shows that Chris Gardner go to church and praise Lord. In that scene, we can see, even he doesn’t tell everything. However, from the melancholist and full of reignation’s expression we can see that he was praying to God and he wish that God can give the best thing to his life.

The Pursuit of Happyness can be said as one of the perfect movie. It is because it doesn’t only offer a nice and meaningful story, but it also has a great actor such as Will Smith. He can express happiness and sadness in a perfect way. It makes audience become easy to understand his feeling even when he was not talking. This movie also supported by the great teamwork in sound effect, video editing and so on. For those reasons, this movie was an appropriate movie for you to motivate you when you feel down and encourage you to make a better life every day. I bet that after you have watched this movie you will not forget this movie.
